XML Offers Neutral And Platform Independent Encapsulation Of Your Data

Posted by Peter H. Spencer | Posted in Web Development | Posted on 07-02-2010

Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) has very quickly established itself as a viable technology with a huge range of real-world applications. One of the main reasons for its importance and wide acceptance is the fact that it offers a working solution to one of the key problems faced by software developers and computer users alike: the exchange of incompatible data. Each software environment creates its own unique type of binary file which only it can understand. When data is exported in XML format, it becomes a known quantity, independent of the environment in which it was originated.

The PDF format is another example of a platform-independent format which has gained worldwide acceptance. Once a document is saved in PDF format, its format is set in stone, it can viewed and printed with its layout and formatting intact, without the need for the software which created the original document. However, where the PDF format concerns itself mainly with the presentation of information, XML is used to describe and encapsulate the information itself.

Though XML itself is still fairly new, the idea behind goes back a long way. In the 1970s, Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) was developed in an attempt to create an application-independent method of describing data. SGML is a text-based language which employs the concept of adding mark-up to data which describes the data itself. An SGML document contains both the original data and a set of rules defining the structure of that data. SGML is a fairly complex language and, unlike XML, has never become mainstream. In the early 1990s, SGML was used to develop and specify the rules of HTML and in the late 1990s, SGML was again called upon, this time as the basis for the development of XML. In many ways XML is really a restricted form of SGML. Read the rest of this entry »

Search engine optimization otherwise known as SEO could be a popular type of search engine marketing.  The main goal of that (as its name would suggest) is to improve the ranking of the positioning in various search engines. A whole trade of consultants has sprung up around the idea of search engine optimization.  But, it’s important to note that there are 2 distinct and disparate methodologies at work when it comes to optimization.  In fact the SEO consultants themselves also their strategies can be subdivided further into 2 different groups.  The classes are best called “white hat SEO” (which is aimed toward improving overall web site quality, and increasing the location’s ranking through approved ways), or “black hat SEO” (typically use methods like cloaking and spamdexing to extend rankings.  However, using such strategies will result in your website to being faraway from search engine listings). Those within the white hat camp charge that black hat ways aren’t solely giving SEO a unhealthy name however are also trying to manipulate and undermine the search rankings. The black hatters counter that argument by saying that in fact all SEO is an try to manipulate rankings, and thus the particular strategies one uses to increase rankings are irrelevant. In different words they take the a lot of Machiavellian approach of using the top results to justify the means that they use.

So what a lot of specifically are the strategies being used by the 2 camps?

How To Achieve A High Website Ranking

Websites can be easily found on Yahoo, Google, MSN etc., what’s difficult is knowing how to begin so that your website could be one that is looked up through these search engines as well. Following a few tips can help. If you have an existing website/domain do not invest in a new one while redesigning it or try to redirect the old domain to the new one. Search engines lay great emphasis on how long the domain has been around for. If you are forced to change your domain be prepared to loose a bit of traffic for maybe weeks, months or more.

Your target audience and not the search engine should be the base for you to optimize your site. The target audience are people who type keywords in the search engine, search box. If you are sort of hazy about who your target audience are, look for demographic info online or visit forums, various sites and communities where you target audience hangs out and get information to use for your copywritting and research on key words.

Wordtracker or Google’s Keyword Tool are good tools that will help your research in finding the optimal phrases. ‘Hotel’ or ‘vacation’ are general keywords that do not in any way indicate what your site is about therefore refrain from choosing these type of keywords. There should be various categories of keywords in the navigation and architecture of your site. Let’s say you sold toys, your site visitors might look up your products and services by specific age (toys for a 2 year old), by various types of toys (preschool, soft toys), material (wooden toys / battery operated toys)etc. That means the key to your keywords must be categorization. Additional column inches have been written concerning a way to please the search engines and persuade them to bestow favour on your website than nearly any other internet-connected topic.  But as way as I know no-one has previously tried to understand their gender: do they behave a lot of like a man, or a lot of sort of a lady?  Perceive their gender will surely help us to gain a better insight into the way to charm to them.

MSN is terribly clear: MSN could be a man.  Everything about MSN is straightforward: do the correct thing and you will be recognized.   Follow the recommendation of the consultants and you may surely rank highly on MSN so long as your competitors are less diligent in this respect than you.  Smart content, relevant titles, keyword-related metatags, masses of quality inbound links, varied keyword anchor-text, a smart smattering of deep links and a #one ranking will be your reward.  I’ve got gained #one positions on MSN for moderately competitive keywords within per week of trying.  What you see is what you get with MSN: he is a man.

Is Yahoo a person or a woman?  I realize it onerous to decide.  Perhaps it’s a serial transsexual, or maybe just androgynous. Typically Yahoo is as simple as a man: do the right issue, pay your dues and be a part of the club, no complications.   This happens to me on some of my keywords: I have followed the foundations and gained my reward.  On others, apparently no more competitive, and where I am just further-optimized, if not higher, I’m nowhere.  For these words, she may be a woman, proof against my blandishments. Many people are looking for the fastest and cheapest way to make money at home online, and the most efficient way to achieve SEO optimization. The best way – known as “Keyword Targeting” and sometimes referred to as “Keyword Sniping”, is misunderstood.

First of all, the concept of keyword targeting is based on looking for specific “long tail keywords”. These are keyword phrases of three words or more which are relevant to the subject matter of the product being sold.
