In my continual quest to make search engine optimization and number one rankings available to everyone doing business online, Im often asked how to take advantage of search engine optimization when just starting out.
Fundamentally, search engine optimization is the study of how search engines work. With a basic understanding of how search engines rank various websites, you can quickly discover the most beneficial techniques for improving your own website’s ranking. When thinking about SEO, short for search engine optimization, focus your efforts on major search engines. Their algorithms and methods for ranking drive the results of smaller search engines and the majority of Internet traffic.
SEO has an impact on search engine rankings. In essence your are controlling where your site ranks for a given search term or phrase. Some people feel that having this control is not fair or somehow manipulates search engines in a bad way. I disagree with this statement in that SEO allows you to accentuate the positive related to your website or blog. Yes, people try to game the system but they need to be identified and taken off the web. In such a high stakes game as Internet marketing, some are prone to stretch the boundaries and do things that are inappropriate. Read the rest of this entry »

Websites can be easily found on Yahoo, Google, MSN etc., what’s difficult is knowing how to begin so that your website could be one that is looked up through these search engines as well. Following a few tips can help. If you have an existing website/domain do not invest in a new one while redesigning it or try to redirect the old domain to the new one. Search engines lay great emphasis on how long the domain has been around for. If you are forced to change your domain be prepared to loose a bit of traffic for maybe weeks, months or more.
Your target audience and not the search engine should be the base for you to optimize your site. The target audience are people who type keywords in the search engine, search box. If you are sort of hazy about who your target audience are, look for demographic info online or visit forums, various sites and communities where you target audience hangs out and get information to use for your copywritting and research on key words.
Wordtracker or Google’s Keyword Tool are good tools that will help your research in finding the optimal phrases. ‘Hotel’ or ‘vacation’ are general keywords that do not in any way indicate what your site is about therefore refrain from choosing these type of keywords. There should be various categories of keywords in the navigation and architecture of your site. Let’s say you sold toys, your site visitors might look up your products and services by specific age (toys for a 2 year old), by various types of toys (preschool, soft toys), material (wooden toys / battery operated toys)etc. That means the key to your keywords must be categorization. The new “unavailable_after” tag of Google, caused quite a stir in the blogosphere. Breaking an important story in a blog is completely different compared to writting articles for the high ranking newsletter. When one of the blogging spot posted this news, the others soon followed, spreading the word in minutes. about 93,000 pages mentioned this phrase where previously no results were shown. If the phrase or even the slightest focus was laid on this phrase in Title tags or articles, it was given importance and showed up in ranking in search engines.
All this led to a conclusion being drawn on bloggers. There are 10 types of bloggers ranging from the good, the bad to the sleazy. The good bloggers are three in number. The first bloggers seek permission before printing an article and if requested add link backs and a bio. They want to add some content to their sites thus the full article is published along with additional bio and links that you specify. The second good bloggers don’t seek republishing permission but give a link to the original article. This however, leave the original writer with little control in what the bio link has to say.
The third good bloggers blog about something that is written in their own words thus not duplicating the original article. They add unique commentaries and opinions of their own and on occasion end up criticizing what has been written. The forth are the bad bloggers who blog what others blogged and then link back to both the blogger’s posts and the original author. They walk away with the credit that actually belongs to the original author. Read the rest of this entry »

The SEO (Search Engine Optimization) biz has become really tough, filled with cut-throat competition. Competition is at such a peak, that fierce seems like a meek word. Earlier, anyone who knew SEO could easily, in all the major serch engines, rank highly with a bit of extra efforts compared to their counterparts. It is not the same these days. It’s a lot more difficult to obtain high rankings in search engines. If by chance anyone does get a high ranking, it is not for long because of the competition. Before you know it, it’s gone to someone else.
Long time propositions are a must to optimize your website. Site owners, SEO’s and webmasters focus must shift to acquiring a keyword in a particular position, in a particular search engine in order to increase the traffic and to convert this traffic which was their initial target in to customers instead of concentrating on the small picture of high ranking. The business goal must be all about bringing more people to the website who are looking for the type of services and products that the business is selling. If that is taken care of, the rankings and sales are automatically taken care of.
Do not make the mistake of thinking that any SEO company will magically get that ranking for you or that they will place your website at the top of a search engine. Instead do not forget to think also that there are thousands of other websites who are offering basically the same products and information as you are. What you can do to set yourself apart is shift your focus from high ranking and broaden your horizon. Concentrate on fixing your website by keeping the needs of your customers as a priority. This will automatically serve the purpose of working better for your users and the search engine. Read the rest of this entry »

Several times a website owner will just look at the Search Engine Results for keywords they have chosen when it comes to the presentation they are getting for their investment into SEO.
Focusing only on a certain keyword or phrase is all right, nevertheless it does not take into account what other remaining effects you might be receiving.
When a site gets properly optimized, (SEO) it is being transformed into a planned navigational pattern of information. This is the same pattern that Search Engine Spider look for. Something that should not be overlooked, the easier an SEO makes it for a spider to index your site, the better your chances are for getting your site a higher placement in the Search Engine Results Placement (SERPs) for more than just targeted key words or phrases. Despite popular belief, search engine optimization isn’t entirely free. In fact, some companies spend tens of thousands of dollars each year trying to get their websites ranked in the number one position organically. This is not only expensive, but can take loads of time. If you think SEO is free, than think again. However, if you have the time to spend, you sure can save a lot.
Make sure to begin your search engine optimization efforts with keyword research. Many SEO experts don’t spend a lot of time on keyword selection but it is by far the most important aspect of SEO. The reason is that when you optimize for the wrong keyword means a lot of wasted effort resulting in little or no traffic. You want to find a keyword or keyword phrase that is relevant to your audience, has a high search volume, and very little competition. As you might assume, finding the right keyword can be a real challenge. Start with effective keyword research and your SEO efforts will be successful.
Once you have completed the initial keyword research, its time to start investigating your competition for that given keyword. Do a search for the keyword or keyword phrase you’ve chosen and analyze the websites that appear in the first three positions. You’ll want to evaluate on page factors as well as off page factors like the number of inbound links to their website and directory listing. This research gives you a good understanding of your competition. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re looking for short cuts to high search engine placements, you’ll be looking for a very long time. I recently worked with someone on search engine optimization and spent a good deal of time focusing on both on page optimization techniques and off page optimization. Due to a relatively simple web site, optimizing their pages was relatively easy. We soon focused on off page optimization and some techniques to quickly build links to their website.
Off page optimization is all about building your web site’s popularity. Google measures this by applying their algorithm and rewarding you with a Google Page Rank. Once your page has Google PR, it can easily be compared with other pages in the same genre. This is especially true with new sites or pages that have very little history associated with them.
The first step was to make sure that the site had all of the necessary characteristics that would make it easily accessible by search engine spiders. After applying the proper navigation, meta tags, and keyword application we evaluated the site for size and loading time. After this optimization was complete, we identified a few key link building strategies. Read the rest of this entry »

For the aveage Webmaster, Search Engine Optimization is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a Guaranteed Houston SEO, I believe part of this misunderstanding is because of all the misinformation taught by self described SEO Guru’s. Some do this because they do not know any better while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SEO isn’t rocket science peeps. It’s nothing more than systematically building and optimizing a website the same way over and over to achieve high rankings.
To start with, one should make certain your main keywords are part of the URL if it’s possible. All things being equal, a site with your keywords in the domain name will rank higher than one without the keywords included in the web address.
Next up, the keyword or keyword phrase should be added in the Website’s Title. By doing this, you’re helping search engines like MSN come to a conclusion as to what subject your site is covering. Read the rest of this entry »
