On Page SEO or search engine optimization has been around since search engines began. They started with a simple technology since the the World Wide Web was a great deal smaller. As the web began to grow larger it has became more complex for search engines to differentiate your page from other pages. Searching on “Cars” could lead to results more than a million+ pages that use the word “Car” on their site. The more sophisticated technology of Off Page SEO has started to take over now that the search engines as well as the World Wide Web have grown larger.
On Page SEO’s purpose is to optimize your website and make it search engine friendly to gain traffic. If your website is not optimized for keyword search your chances of getting decent results in the major search engines will decrease dramatically. Your website should be properly indexed for the search engines. At least one link on each of your sites that takes the user somewhere should be in place. Your content should be unique and original on every page.
The meta tags need to be arranged correctly with your page title tags and the description tags should be describing the content of your pages. You need to make sure that page title tags are no more than 68 characters and the descriptions tags are no more than 148 characters but have more detail. Label all the different headers on your pages with H tags. Web page URLS should be SEO friendly as well using mod re-write for Linux and Apache hosting for IIS redirect for Windows. Ideally try to ensure that your URLS describe your pages content with as much detail as allowed.
Page links should be checked for any dead links. Use descriptive URLS for all images you have on your site instead of just a bunch of numbers. All images need to be labeled with descriptive alt attributes appropriately.
Using anchor texts links within your page to redirect traffic to the other sites is recommended. If you sell coffee tables then you should create anchor links in the text coffee tables where the word shows up on your pages. Be sure to check that only one version of your site is active. All non www. URLS need to be redirected correctly.
No need to waste Page Rank on any pages that are not needed for search engines. Use the rankings for pages that are more important for receiving traffic. Use the rel=”nofollow” tag in those pages. This tag can also be used for pages that you don’t trust or simply do not want to assist in the search engines results.
Use a good code for the search engines to properly read your pages. Try using the W3C validator for checking your markup. Following these simple guidelines for On Page SEO you should create good results for your web pages in the search engines as well as decent rankings.
