Now that you have your website up and running we need some traffic. You could start off by signing up to do a pay per click ad campaign or take a few keywords and start ranking with them using different SEO methods. The first thing you want to do is your market research, then you would follow that up with your keyword research. This is what I do.
I found that pay per click and SEO work out to be the same. You’re just paying someone for the traffic while the other service is free. People make a lot of mistakes when veering off to do these two things. These are 3 rules that I have that work well for me. First, you want to pick a keyword that is going to bring you in some traffic. Take a look at the other words around it and start to use those as well.
Picking the right keywords with traffic is important. The search engines just started letting us look at the keywords that other people search for. If you are going the pay per click route, you want to pick a keyword that has very little competition. The price will be lower. Don’t make the mistake of picking a keyword that is too hard for you. Select the right one that will bring some traffic to your website.
A top guru that I know talks a lot about this. It takes the same amount of work to become successful and the same amount of work to fail. Just think of all the work you have to go through to make it and make a plan for you to succeed. If you map out where you want to go, the less likelihood you are to not failing. If you pick a keyword that is to hard for you to rank with, you’ve done all that work for nothing. So start off with the lower levels of competition first.
Last, you’re going to want to check to see what kind of commercial value your keyword has. Who is buying products off of that keyword that you want to rank for? What is the level of competition that you have? Do a lot of advertisers compete for that word? If you pick keywords that have a really good commercial value, advertisers will want to advertise on your website.
There are many different ways that you can check to see if you have the right keyword or not. What is the competition like? How difficult is it going to be for you to knock the person out of their number one spot? If you plan things right, everything will work out for you. A lot of times the keywords that don’t have that much competition are the ones you should be starting out with.
