How Keywords Plays a Big Part In SEO.
Using keywords in your websites and on your webpages is a proven fact that it will help you rank higher in google for that keyword. The way in which you use the keywords however is an often debated topic in the online marketing world and even more so in the SEO world. The reason for this is because google (and the little search engines) often change their ranking factors and rules so some thing’s that were really effective last time are no longer as effective now. However, there are always a set of clear cut guidelines you can follow in order to approach search engine optimization with success.
Keeping Abreast Of SEO Times.
In order to stay one step of the game in regards to SEO you first have to understand what you shouldn’t do as these rules and lines that google set’s rarely change. If you do happen to break these rules or step over the line then you will be penalized and have your content you worked so hard on just ignored!
Spam – The Big NO!
Search engines do not take spam, or the sites that contain it, lightly. This is the most important thing you should remember. It used to be ‘acceptable’ in the eyes of search engine robots for your content to be 100% keywords with absolutely no meaningful text. However, this practice of keyword cramming or keyword stuffing is now something that does not go unnoticed and you will face a penalty for using this technique. Yes, keywords are important but you also have to provide solid and informational text for your visitors.
So, What Is The ‘Correct’ Keyword Density Then?
The exact keyword density that is considered correct is typically said to be 5 to 10%. However other’s believe they can use a keyword density of up to 20% and still not get penalized by google or the other search engines. At 10% as a maximum mark this shows that your site is highly relevant to the keyword and yet still leaves you room to give a good article and nice content for your reader… thus it is not really spammy and your not having to change your article over and over again to fit the keyword in more and more times.
Caution!
Ok the higher density’s of around 20% may not have had any negative effects on your site a while ago but if google comes along one day and say’s that 20% is too high as most people who don’t even understand anything about seo would never have a keyword density of 20% by just writing normally then that would mean that your content and site would be penalized too. The search engines are designed to show sites that are informative and not typically created specifically to gain the rankings or finding loopholes. Thus sticking to a max of 10% (or so) is highly likely to product you alot better results and for a longer time too.
Playing By The Rules.
It may seem strange at first to try and include your keyword a certain number of times but generally if you are writing an informative article for your user and just including your keyword in every so often to please the search engines then you will find that 5 to 10% is a very normal occurrence and not difficult to achieve. Make your content appeal to both of these and you will be good!
What Are Natural Keywords And Artificial Keywords?
When you are writing an article or any content for a website then you will notice that as you are writing you keep repeating the same phrase or word’s over and over again throughout the article, these are your natural keywords. However normally when you are just writing on a subject the keywords that you keep repeating are usually the ones with the higher competition even if they have alot more searches. The alternative is to do some keyword research before and choose keywords to use that are longer but have less searches and less competition so getting those top spots and the search engine traffic is made a lot easier.
Replacing Natural Keywords With Artificial Keywords.
What you now want to do is go back through that article and see what keyword appears a lot of times and then replace it with the longer one. Sometimes this might not make the article flow however with a few more edits to the text around it too then it will soon make a lot of sense and be based on the keyword with the correct density.
Starting Again With Your Artificial Keyword.
Another method is to look for your artificial keywords before you begin and make sure you have them in the back (or the front) of your mind when you sit down to write your website content. Because you are already thinking of the phrase you want to use you will naturally include it within the content of your site. It’s not a trick, although you may want to consider it a subliminal tactic if you wish, but it will work.
Keyword Conversion Results.
By converting your artificial keywords into natural keywords you should be able to effectively optimize pages towards both search engines and your visitors and this will mean improved search engine rankings as well as improved conversion rates. Even a small increase in visitors combined with a small increase in conversion rates will show a good level of increase in your income so you should not overlook this technique.
There are loads of other part’s of seo that the SEO blog will go over and that you really should understand before you go out and start writing your content and to make sure you succeed with seo.
