Google’s Matt Cutts serves up out the latest on tag clouds and how it bears upon search engine optimization. To start off, tag clouds are the visuals you see on the left or decent side bar of a blog site which are made up of words or tags that are actually links to the tag pages on the web site. Frequently used tags look bigger than those that are rarely employed. Cutts said there was a time when tag clouds were so huge in blogging that a lot of bloggers applied them to make the web site more appealing. But according to Google, utilising tag clouds may not be beneficial for search engine optimization.

Cutts explained that tag clouds can be overdone, and when that happens, Google may perceive it as keyword stuffing, a major no-no in search engine optimization. SEO is built-up on good content with just the fitting keyword density to make a site rank.

In the place of tag clouds, Cutts suggested creating categories instead, a thing which he confesses to do on his own blog. The cause for categories and not tag clouds is because categories organize the blog content in such a way that visitors will find posts which are of significance to them in smoother ways. With more visitors loving the content and visiting your web site, you can sure get a high ranking in Google.

Though not providing a hardcore rule, Cutts suggested to think twice or thrice about employing tag clouds. If it can be avoided, then not employing tags is best. But if not, then the lesser tags can have more appropriate effect.

But why not tag clouds? Because every word on the tag cloud is actually a link that extends to the tag URL. When a visitor clicks on a tag, prospects are he will be brought to the tag URL which has the corresponding content as the blog post. This is how tag clouds make duplicate content. Google can penalize your blog for duplicate content. Apart from this, visitors who are searching for helpful and worthwhile content may not feel amused looking at the like material ever-present in many places in the website. It is a waste of time for visitors who want straight info in the littlest time period.

Object lesson learned? Nothing still beats excellent and innovative content to win the game of search engine optimization.
