Mobile phone web design is an innovative concept that is budding. This is due to the advent of technology. Mobile users are also growing globally. This concept is way beyond mere redirection of an html page in a different language. There are plentiful challenges that are coupled with this novel aspect.

It is estimated that more than a trillion pages were downloaded in 2008 alone. This undoubtedly is a very large volume. There is a wide variety of applications being accessed by the users that has changed very rapidly from the initial game scores and ring tone downloads. Today social networking sites have also become accessible on mobile phones; information is being sought and uploaded on the go. The pattern of usage has undergone a rapid transformation and is still changing at a dramatic pace.

There also exist a lot of challenges that developers need to confront with in relation to this. The most crucial of the challenges is the wide variety of mobile phones popular in the market. Each model, irrespective of its simplicity or complexity, becomes a challenge to the developer.

The next important challenge is to understand the complexity and problems faced by the user of the mobile phone when trying to navigate between web pages using the small display screen of the phone. Making the mobile phone web design user friendly is truly a challenge.

There are two types of approaches that can be adopted. First approach is to design pages for the most basic type of mobile phone web design. Another method is to check what kind of a service request is coming in and serve it accordingly at the server level which means that there are multiple designs for a single web page.

Majorly preferred markup language in mobile phone web design is the Wireless Markup Language. Wireless Application Protocol serves as a proxy between the server and the phone. This also alters the web page consequently.

The second approach that is also more logical is to take benefit of the newer phone browsers that send the phone capabilities to the site server. The content from the server can together dynamically or otherwise be modified and tailored to meet this and the request is serviced.

Either way, the reality of mobile phone web design is far more complicated than the normal simple html design and needs a specialized acumen of its own.

Assuming you have a company of any type, you want your prospective customers to find you. That means that you want to pay attention to mobile web design. An ever growing number of people around the world will be accessing your services and products through a mobile website as opposed to the traditional Internet.
