Advertising: Flash Or Simple Banners

Both banner and Flash ads are useful online advertising tools employed by many businesses. Both serve the purpose of advertising your business’s product or service, but they have specific differences. If you wish to use one of these advertising methods, you will need to determine which one is best suited for your needs.

Banner ads that are plain are usually unassuming and they can be situated like other banners in a couple of strategic places on the webpage. Wide and short banners may be placed horizontally along the top of the webpage while a long and narrow banner could be placed vertically along the sidebars. To make banner ads more appealing to visitors vivid colors, catchy phrases or eye catching fonts may be used. The banners will be viewable to users when they land on a page related to their search.

When the banner ad is viewed on a user’s monitor, the user can click on the ad to be connected to the advertised Web site. This is known as a “click through rate.”

The advertiser could also gain as he can track the number of visitors which he gets to his offer by examining the click through rate. It is then possible to modify the banner or its location to improve results. Advertisements which use Flash are classified as flash ads. Adobe Flash was previously known as Shockwave Flash and Macromedia Flash. Adobe Flash advertisements allow both animation and user interaction. Flash ads can definitely generate more interest in your advertisement. Videos and animation work very well with Adobe Flash, providing you many more advertisement options.

Though Flash ads can be quite vibrant and attractive, advertisements using Adobe Flash will take longer to download than plain banner ads. Viewing Flash ads will not typically require a plug-in, such as Windows Media Player or Quicktime, so every user is able to view the advertisement.

The use of Adobe Flash for advertisements is becoming increasingly popular. An advantage of using Flash ads to promote your business is that you are almost guaranteed that users will observe your advertisement. It is difficult to look at a Web page that has an advertisement that uses animation or video without at least looking to see what the advertisement is promoting. This could also be the drawback to using Flash ads.

Due to the vast number of ads contending for the attention of surfers they could become annoying. When people seek out information on a particular topic, advertisements that get in the way could be bothersome to the visitor’s pursuit of information.

Consider the demographics of your target market group. Some consumers will be more willing to look at an ad which simply states the necessary facts in a clear way, without any added hype, as banner ads do. Other consumers prefer exciting, novel advertising, which Flash ads provide. Recognize your audience and select your advertising based on their particular preferences.
