Any website owner should be able to tell you how important good website promotion is, actually if you don’t know what you are doing very well then you can cause damage to your site. You shouldn’t use every single method of website promotion when you are just starting out because you might damage your sites chances. Learn about 5 of the biggest mistakes which people make when promoting their site…
Spam Free Zone - If you just start sending out unsolicited emails to people, this is not acceptable not for any reason, and you can actually be reported and “sand-boxed” for this. It will also cause you to be blacklisted or barred from large ISP’s, which will utterly cripple any and all of your traffic. Everyone hates spam just as much as you and it’s doing nothing but destroying your reputation.
Submission services - Many people don’t have time to promote their website properly and so may be tempted to turn to the easy route of spending $20 to get their site submitted. If you use one of these services then the search engines will realize and this will end up damaging your reputation The reason search engines can track this, is because most submission services use the same devices and websites to submit their client’s projects in to. But, if you must use submission services, your best bet then, is to find a genuine service (which will cost more), and you should always get documentation of everything that was done, including any and all email auto responses that the search engines send out.
Search engine submission- There are hundreds of different search engines out there, however only a few of them are really popular. In reality there are only less than 30 which are even worth submitting to, and you should also try seeking out specialized directories which are suited to your site. If your site is about travel, then seek out directories related to travel then.
Yahoo - It’s very important to submit your site to Yahoo however this will be one of the hardest, this is because all submissions are reviewed by humans and not machines. You should try to convince them that your website is in fact a useful resource, so that they feel inclined to allow you to pass through without issue or concern, and the best way to do this, is to not rush through your yahoo submission to begin with.
Ready for Customers - You should never submit your site until it is open and working properly. Make sure that you have tested your site thoroughly, and that every single section is complete, including spell checked, before you begin submitting. By making sure you are completely ready for customers it will make it much easier to secure sales and inspire confidence.
